After upgrading, the CPU displays a red light.
Hi everyone, my friend upgraded his CPU from a Ryzen 5 1600x to a Ryzen 7 5800x. He used an MSI B350M Mortar Arctic motherboard. I made sure the BIOS was updated during installation and verified it worked after the update. Once the swap was done, the red CPU error light appeared again when switching back to the older model, even though it was removed from the board. No updates were posted for either situation. I tried several fixes: resetting CMOS by shorting pins, removing the battery, re-seating the CPU, trying with just one RAM stick, reseating RAM, and re-seating the GPU. Still facing the same problem. I suspect a BIOS corruption might be the cause, but I’m not sure. I hope it’s not related to a BIOS issue since the board doesn’t support flashback. Any suggestions would be appreciated—thanks!
You did a thorough job getting ready for the upgrade, so compatibility problems seem unlikely. It’s possible a cable or connector slipped out during the switch. I recommend reattaching and reconnecting everything carefully, then resetting the CMOS. If that doesn’t resolve it, try testing each component individually on another machine. Good luck!
