I recently attempted to upgrade my PC to a Ryzen processor from an older Athlon model. Here are the details of my system: Motherboard: ASUS PRIME A320 M-K (latest UEFI/BIOS), Old CPU: AMD Athlon X4 950, New CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, RAM: 8GB at 2400mHz DDR4, Storage: Seagate Firecuda 530 1TB with heatsink, PSU: 500W. Before installation, everything functioned normally with the old CPU, but after the upgrade, the new CPU doesn’t show up when I power on the machine. The fan spins as expected, lights turn on, and basic operations appear to work. It seems the pins aren’t bent or damaged, so the issue might be elsewhere.
The video cable is connected to the GPU instead of the motherboard. Have you attempted to reset the BIOS settings? (You might find a jumper on the motherboard or remove the CMOS battery for a short time)
I removed the CMOS and waited just over five minutes before reinserting it, then powered on the PC but still saw no screen. This shows the GPU or display cable isn’t the issue, since the keyboard stays lit only when first connected, pointing to a likely CPU problem.
Hello everyone, I realized I made an error. The PC was actually working fine; I mistakenly believed I had updated the BIOS to the newest release when in fact I had only updated it to match the latest AMD Athlon X4 950 support, not the one compatible with the 5600X. I purchased a 2200G to perform a BIOS update for full compatibility with the 5600X, and now the PC has a display. The main issue is that the CPU was overheating, so I replaced the inadequate cooler with the standard one included with the CPU. However, the PC no longer powers on, and I’ll handle that in another post.
