You could keep the old thermal paste on. It hasn’t been fully removed yet.

After using my previous CPU to download the newest BIOS from the Asus website for my motherboard (B450 ASUS Prime-A/CSM), I found out it was actually BIOS version 4002 instead of the one Asus installed automatically with Ez Flash 3. Now everything works smoothly. Thanks for your guidance—remember to install the latest BIOS!
