After the Windows update, the CPU (5800x3D) stops downclocking and temperatures remain much higher.
Updated to 22H2 everything functions properly but the CPU fluctuates between 3.7 and 4GHz when idle. Temperatures are noticeably higher, averaging about 20°C more than before the update, with a peak of around 80°C when it was 70°C previously. It's quite bothersome because the noise level has increased too. Previously, idle temps stayed between 1.5 and 2GHz with no sound at all. The Ryzen balanced feature was missing before, but it's still absent now—this seems odd. Any suggestions?
Even with a balanced power plan, verify that the processor isn't stuck at full capacity. Also review which programs are putting maximum strain on the CPU. Monitor both CPU activity and power draw, as I encountered a problem with MSI Centre—despite low benchmark usage, it was consuming power excessively, idling around 75°C, and dropping to about 40°C within seconds after closing a program. Uninstalling it resolved the issue.
Check clock speeds using Ryzen Master or the Effective Clockspeed part of HWiNFO.
Hello, I'll check this when I get home, I might have the same issue as I noticed by PC has been a little louder as of recently, but yes I would update chipset drivers first. There's a new release from 1/31. Ryzen power plan haven't been a thing for years and shouldn't be necessary with 5000 series.
yeah, that's what i thought, first it was windows search index, which is normal after an update, but now nothing is using it, its at 1% and still clocks higher than usual. ok, i did. effective clock is very low apparently, but still taskmanager and apparently BIOS (as that's what controls the cooler) thinks otherwise, it sounds like its actually running at ~4ghz lol.. i dunno, strange but really annoying. checked power plan min processor state 5% max 100% so there really doesn't seem to be a change either. guess i could still try updating chipset , right?
It's typical for Ryzen to run at high clock speeds frequently due to rapid changes. Even my 2700X behaved this way. Unlike Intel, it doesn't automatically lower its speed. You should still notice lower power consumption in the package. After updating chipset drivers, that might have made a difference. System responsiveness also improved after the hwinfo update.
system operates smoothly without any major changes in performance. The only noticeable issue is that the Windows search index becomes unstable after the update. It might be possible to disable it and use a tool from PowerToys instead.
