You can propose that idea; would it help to launch a live Ubuntu from a USB drive and test the performance? This might cut down on setup time compared to installing Windows fully.

I understand you're curious about trying this setup. Since you're using an Ubuntu Linux distro from a USB drive, you can boot directly with it. You can log in, run a speed test, and see if performance improves. This would help confirm whether the issue lies with your internet connection or the system setup.

The benefit of testing is to verify if the problem persists after reinstalling Windows. If your speed remains normal, it suggests the original configuration was faulty. If not, reinstalling might resolve deeper issues.

Your backup of the Windows installation could be useful for a clean restore later, but be cautious—restoring from a backup may reintroduce existing problems. Consider backing up important data before proceeding.

Now I'm really stressed. I had to travel for work recently, which pushed this delay until today. I tried reinstalling Windows 11 again. The issue kept coming up. I used the original Windows 11 installation USB created with Microsoft. For the reinstall, I selected "keep nothing" and "start as a new machine." After the install finished, I tried updating but didn’t see any improvement. I ran a speed test and still got no change. I updated the Realtek LAN drivers using the official motherboard drivers, then the latest Realtek ones, but nothing worked. I also changed the duplex settings and used several high-quality Cat6 cables. My router connects directly to the modem via a wired connection (TP-Link EX 510 Pro). Still nothing fixed it. The only change I made was swapping the motherboard before the problem began. Now I’m trying a different approach—installing Windows 10 first and then upgrading to 11, hoping that might help. If that doesn’t work, I’ll upgrade directly to Windows 11 from the update. At this point, I’m doing anything possible.

Only receiving 100mb/s suggests a possible connection issue rather than a cable problem, which might actually point to a router malfunction. To investigate, remove any extra Ethernet connections from your router and connect a laptop directly using Cat5e or Cat6. Confirm you can achieve a gigabit link to the router. Your router’s web interface may have a default 100mb setting. For cables, an NF-8209S from AliExpress ensures proper continuity and length checks to pinpoint faults. If needed, use a pass-through connector and termination tool to repair a damaged link. If you recently purchased a motherboard, it should still be covered under warranty—return the board if issues persist. An RTL8156 USB NIC could provide a faster solution. Also, make sure you’re downloading drivers from the manufacturer’s site, not asrock.

I appreciate your feedback as it helped me explore something I hadn’t considered before. My setup involves a direct connection between my PC and modem, but due to the home wiring, a 150ft industrial Cat6 cable connects them. Over the past five years, I’ve experienced no speed issues or problems. However, after installing a new motherboard, internet speeds dropped to around 100mbps. Initially, I wasn’t sure why this happened, so I switched the WLAN cable from the router to my PC, but kept the same WAN connection. This still maintained 100mbps. When you mentioned a cable tester, it made me reconsider whether I’d checked it before. I purchased a basic cable tester and discovered that Wire 4 on the PC side didn’t light up, while Wire 8 did blink. On the router side, all indicators lit up during testing. This suggests the issue might be with the PC’s terminal or possibly a faulty connection. I’ve ordered a new Cat6 cable certified for my setup and plan to replace everything once it arrives. I’ll monitor the results after installation.
