Hi. You're using an i7 8700 with a cooler that started overheating during Windows boot after a BIOS update from 0502 to 2301. It reaches temperatures near 100°C under stress or in games. The HWINFO shows a voltage of about 1.450V for the core VID, which seems too high for your BIOS/Windows settings. Rolling back isn't possible since Asus appears to have disabled that option. You've tried AFDOS fixes, but it works without errors yet keeps the same BIOS version. You're looking for ways to adjust or limit the voltage. A forum discussion mentioned a similar problem, but it didn't provide a solution.

Always bring your BIOS back to its original configuration after an update and reset everything to what you used to have. If you followed that process, could there be an issue? If not, it might be mixing up the previous settings.

I attempted to restore the default settings but didn’t see any changes. Consider resetting the CMOS chip if that might help.

It's usually a good idea, though the automatic voltage might be too strong and you may need to adjust it yourself.

Update: Attempted to revert everything to defaults and turned off turbo boost in BIOS. The outcome showed a maximum VID of 1.15 and a peak of 67°C across cores during Cinebench R23 multicore test. Last week I switched to BIOS 2501, and now my CPU runs about 20 degrees hotter under load, with noisy fans. I suspect the newer BIOS versions are causing the problem. I also saw your post on the Asus ROG Forum. Have you found a way to fix the overheating? Did you try BIOS 2701? Are you considering reverting to older BIOS versions?
