After or before powering up the computer?
After switching to Windows 11, my Lenovo ThinkPad e580 keyboard stopped working during a cold boot (it functions after reboot). I looked online for solutions but couldn't find a clear answer. I discovered a method but wasn't sure if the computer needed to be powered on first.
I looked up solutions online and tried various methods without success. What have you attempted before this issue occurred? After switching to Windows 11, my Lenovo ThinkPad e580 keyboard fails to function during a cold boot (it works after rebooting). Did you upgrade via the internal upgrade path in Windows 10? If yes, you should recreate your Windows 11 bootable USB installer and reinstall the OS offline. Ensure you have the latest drivers on a removable drive before proceeding. Before beginning these steps, it’s wise to back up all essential data from your original drive. Lastly, I discovered an intriguing method but am uncertain whether the computer must be powered on first. How should I handle the instructions in your guide when the laptop is off?
Likely there are many methods available online. For example, removing the driver from Device Manager, updating drivers from the Lenovo website, disabling fast boot, adjusting BIOS settings, and more. I am uncertain if I can press the power button for several seconds to turn on the laptop, so I shared my question.
I swapped the SSD with a new one before installing (clean install).
I'm not confident about pressing the on/off button for several seconds to activate the laptop. That's why I shared this question.
Is there a connection to the keyboard? Can I recharge the battery without taking it out?
The keyboard isn't functioning during startup because the driver couldn't load on a cold boot (it's required for restart/warm-up). The issue resolves when you turn off or uncheck the fast startup feature in Power Settings (Control Panel). Disabling the fast boot setting in BIOS didn't solve the problem.
