Macrium is my preferred tool for duplicating drives or partitions. I searched for reliable YouTube guides but found limited quality results. In the software, choose your source disk (such as a 1 TB drive) and your destination disk (like a 256 GB one). You can specify which partitions you wish to copy. For this task, prioritize the Boot OS and recovery partitions. A common problem arises if you don’t create another partition on the drive right after installation. Then, when shrinking the volume, it may fail to reduce to the required size. An alternative approach is to transfer all data not needed to a separate 1 TB SSD. Next, create a Windows installation media drive (USB flash), disconnect your main disk, set USB as the primary boot device in BIOS, install the OS, and verify the correct drive is selected. After installation, remove the media and reconnect the HDD. Adjust the boot order in BIOS to prioritize the SSD first, then the HDD. Use disk management to delete the OS partition on the HDD if needed. If that doesn’t work, reformat the entire drive—other methods exist but may be more complex. Once done, leave the HDD disconnected and run performance tests or transfer speed checks. If everything functions, reinstall the HDD; if performance drops, it could indicate bandwidth issues affecting system speed due to inefficient lane communication. I’ll be here tomorrow if you need further clarification.
