You're dealing with a puzzling situation where your M.2 write speeds consistently stay below 10 Mb/s, except when using Steam. It seems the issue is specific to certain downloads and apps. The fact that you get higher speeds on Steam suggests the problem lies in how your system handles those particular data transfers. Your motherboard is PCIe 4.0, and you're using a 4080 GPU, which should support decent speeds if the bottleneck isn't elsewhere. The recent GPU swap caused temporary problems, possibly due to driver conflicts or thermal throttling. Since internet speeds are your top performer, it's likely the network card or Wi-Fi settings are limiting performance. Checking for firmware updates on your motherboard and GPU drivers might help. If you're still unsure, providing more details about your system configuration could aid in diagnosing further.
It was configured for Auto so changed it to PCIE and tried downloading a game, but only received 10 MB/s. I included screenshots below. The only difference I noticed in your HWiNFO image is the lack of "Write Zeroes" support, though I’m not sure if that’s the issue. CrystalDiskMark displayed speeds I expected, which matched what I got during testing, but downloading a game didn’t match those results.
sounds like a shared pcie lanes conflict.. . tried plugging your GPU in the second pcie port?
I haven't attempted it, but I did own an RX 5500 XT in the same slot as your 4080 when you didn't face this problem.
Your values from hwinfo and crystaldiskmark appear strong so far. If GPU is the issue, consider running a GPU stress test such as FURMARK alongside a disk performance test and see if it affects disk speed. Also verify whether you've adjusted the "Windows Update Delivery Optimization" bandwidth settings.
This looks really strange, and I've encountered similar issues before—no clear reason for it. It might be that your HDD is functioning as a gateway or a bottleneck. Try switching your operating system to observe the changes.
I've heard some opinions suggesting this might be linked to other M.2 performance issues. Could it really be the issue if it was affecting your HDD before, when you didn't notice any write speed problems? I'm considering moving my operating system to an SSD eventually, but haven't made the switch yet. Do you know of a helpful guide for doing that? Previous searches have been unclear, so I've avoided trying it until now. I'm open to trying it once I get my M.2 speed back.
