my i7 8700-K stopped working about a year ago, and now i’m using the i7 9700-K for compatibility. I recently tried to get it running again. it boots into BIOS as before, but sometimes it doesn’t recognize sata drives. If I manage to boot into windows, i run into stability problems, then it crashes with a blue screen and restarts back into BIOS saying no drives are connected. All components tested with the 9700-K are functioning properly, so this seems like an issue with the processor itself. If you know any troubleshooting steps or possible causes, please share!
Turn off all automatic overclock configurations in BIOS, turn off multicore enhancements (whatever your maker calls it), disable XMP, and possibly remove power-saving options. Check if any changes improve stability. If so, proceed to test each adjustment one by one until issues reappear.
