Hello everyone, I recently tried some overclocking with my 7940x on a Strix x299 gaming rig. My settings were: adaptive volt 1.229v, negativ offset -0.32v, loadline call level 2, OC per core, with 2 cores at 4.6GHz and 12 cores at 4.5GHz. The "each core menu on auto" reached 95% in about 6 minutes, then the PC shut down after that. No blue screen appeared. After about 10 hours the power cord was off, but no changes were made. The BIOS reset button isn’t on the back.
is that the small round silver device you mentioned? (you need to remove the GPUs and it hurts...) it resets the BIOS back to default. I’m thinking maybe I left the core voltage auto on for certain cores, even though I set it to 1.229 with a -30 setting... could that have caused damage?
It's simpler to locate the clear CMOS pins and connect them directly. You wouldn't need to remove the GPU and battery for this.
It's a bit too long, isn't it? Usually just plug in the PSU cable, press the power button to confirm no residual electricity, remove the battery, wait a minute, then reconnect everything. There doesn’t seem to be much benefit to waiting 15 minutes instead of a few seconds, except for the time spent.
Certainly, some systems need a bit more time to fully reset. If you follow these steps, it should begin functioning again after the recommended period. Ensure you disconnect the power source by turning off or unplugging the PSU. Once the power is off, remove the battery and let it sit for the specified duration. After that, reinstall the battery and then restore power by plugging it back in or switching it on, following the correct order.
