Affordable power switches available
POE offers a higher price, probably around £100 more than the non-POE model I received, but it was justified since my switch uses a UPS and all POE devices run on it. It also saves power at outlets and simplifies cabling. I also have a Netgear GS110EMX - 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Plus Switch with 2-Port 10G/Multi-Gig Uplinks for the media area where the TV and gaming consoles are located.
It appears to provide most of the Netgear features at a lower cost overall. The PoE Input seems somewhat unnecessary since it's connected to a Gigabit port, though it's unclear whether the device actually supports PoE over the 10Gbit port. The PoE OUTPUT would likely exceed your budget.
Poe isn't something you need, it's more of a preference. I just prefer fewer cables around.
This setup for PoE is essentially the same as the previous PoE version found at the link provided. It isn't the most convenient design for a home environment, but it does provide PoE functionality. If you choose either option, I suggest updating to the newest RC firmware. The current model is RC25 css610-8g-2s+in. With the standard firmware, you won't be able to reach the unit's web interface via the SFP ports.
Thanks, I understand. It seems my Pi isn't connecting to that switch anymore.
