I own a CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra Gua3400A, and I realize I made a poor choice when purchasing it for gaming. My intention is to enhance this computer slightly and transform it into a media center device for use in my living room. I’m considering adding an SSD, memory, and a graphics card while aiming to keep the cost reasonable. Should I undertake a complete overhaul?

Proposed upgrade components:
CPU – FX-8350
Motherboard – GA-990FXA-UD3 R5
SSD – WD 250gig
RAM – Gskill 16gig (8x2)
GPU – MSI Radeon RX 580 8 GB ARMOR MK2 OC

Estimated cost: $500

I’m also planning to invest in a more powerful gaming PC in 2019, anticipating significant price reductions at that time.

For building a media center, I suggest avoiding the components you’ve selected. Instead, consider these options:

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G - https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Process...7aa1aeed12
GIGABYTE B450M DS3H - https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-B450M-DS...884cd107aa
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...38566&SID=
Crucial MX500 500GB - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0784SLQM6/ref...91d7041d93

This configuration will cost approximately $283. Upgrading to a new processor is recommended; avoid FX processors entirely. I’ve selected 8GB of RAM, as it's sufficient for a media center application. Furthermore, I’ve enhanced the storage with a 500GB solid-state drive for improved performance, at a minimal additional expense. Finally, I’ve omitted a dedicated graphics card since the CPU incorporates an integrated GPU.
