AdvicePc will not proceed with the Windows installer.
My friend's PC is mine. He somehow damaged his motherboard yesterday, so we obtained a used one from another friend. It only boots into BIOS without Windows, so I considered formatting his SSD on my computer and attempting a Windows reinstall. The process starts loading and then restarts, ending up in the Windows recovery with error code 0xc000000f. Using the media creation tool, I tried different settings and formats—MBR, GPT, legacy on/off, UEFI on/off, CSM on/off—but nothing worked. The BIOS is set to F22b. The motherboard details are Gigabyte GA AB350 Gaming 3 rev 1.0, with a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, BIOSTAR RX580 GPU, and G-Skill RAM kits (both 1x4GB and 3200). For the SSD, I used both a Patriot 128GB and an MX500 250GB, both formatted. Also, the USB no longer appears in the boot order after several attempts, so I had to use boot override directly.
Can you try using another USB thumb drive, installing a Linux OS, POP, or Ubuntu, and check if the PC boots into a functional Linux system? You don't need to install anything; it will run directly from the USB stick. Just confirm whether the hardware is working properly.
You won't be installing Linux on his system or on the hard drive/SSD. It will run straight from the USB thumb drive. The installation will take a very long time to load, feeling like an eternity. You can even start using Linux without connecting it to the SSD, just plug it into the motherboard.
If you're unsure about how Linux functions, there are guides that explain how to download the ISO for your version of Linux.
The main idea is you won't install Linux at all.
When you boot, press F9 to F10 or F11 (or F12) to reach the boot screen and select the boot device. Use the USB stick with the Linux installation.
I managed to resolve it! Linux functioned perfectly, which made me think updating the BIOS might fix the Windows issue, but it kept doing the same problem. Then I read a Reddit comment about Windows version 1809, while many others praised the latest release as the best, so I didn’t try it and left it as a fallback option. The unexpected result was that it actually worked, even though I spent a lot of time on it.
Are you confirming you installed Windows version 1809 from 2019 and it resolved the problem? Or are you suggesting that this version was the cause of the issue? Please let us know your current version so we can confirm the fix. The only regret would have been leaving it broken without fixing it. You shared your report on Saturday morning, and by Sunday night it was working smoothly—this is typical for PC issues. Great job resolving it!
Windows 1809 was fixed. There was a problem with FC24 where the game claimed it didn’t support the current Windows version (1809). I advised him to make a restore point and then apply the updates. I believe it’s now running on 24H2 without issues. Thank you for suggesting Linux as an alternative, in case everything else didn’t work.
Thanks a lot for the comments. You might have assisted numerous individuals who will later encounter your post while struggling to install their operating system. It isn't always smooth sailing when dealing with computers. Occasionally, you need to discover the perfect setup to achieve a fully functional Windows environment. Good luck!
