Hey, I'm checking out the "Asus x556ur" laptop which has a soldered 8GB 2133MHz DDR4 RAM. I have one free slot to upgrade and am unsure if using RAM with a higher frequency than 2133MHz or a different CL will work with the existing soldered RAM. Should I look for Micron memory or is there another option? Also, will a Kingston RAM like "8GB 2666MHz 260pin 1.2V CL19" be compatible with my soldered memory? Thanks for the help!
I prefer using one single stick of DDR4-2133MHz RAM. Regardless of the frequency, the RAM will automatically be downclocked to DDR4-2133MHz. Latency is irrelevant too because it will be adjusted according to the specifications built into the motherboard.
In short, the RAM you install will determine your overall speed and latency performance. Your laptop doesn’t offer any way to adjust or overclock latency further. Make sure your system’s BIOS is up to date before adding any RAM.

Since I couldn’t find any additional official specifications for your laptop, it seems you’re limited to a maximum of 16GB. Considering this, an 8GB DDR4-2133MHz RAM stick would be sufficient.

I'm okay with the new higher 2666MHz RAM sticking down to the soldered 2133MHz frequency, and the same applies to latency. The main concern is whether they will work together without issues.
Your laptop should function normally if everything matches.
Mixing ram modules that weren't purchased in a kit can cause issues. It's less of a concern with laptops. Use the scanner at https://eu.crucial.com/store/systemscanner to find suitable replacements.
