Hey everyone, I hope you're doing well! I'm reaching out for some thoughts on the build I've assembled.
The parts I selected are:
GPU: MSI RTX 3060 12GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-core
CPU Cooler: DeepCool AK620
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB) at 3200MHz
PSU: Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro 650W 80 Plus
CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C Black ATX
MOBO: MSI MPG B550
I already have HHDs and SSDs, so I don’t need to purchase any extra, but I’d love some recommendations on a solid choice.
Since I’m not very experienced with PC builds, I’m looking for advice on whether this setup works well or if there are any adjustments I should consider.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Also, I plan to use this machine to host port-forwarded servers for my friends and experiment with setting up a media server.

3900X? Most people have switched to the 3D chips. Even the newer 5900X is only $300 on amazon. I'm not sure why you're considering a more expensive, older 12core chip. It's also strange that you're using a B550 board. I've always preferred better X boards. You're also spending a lot on the CPU while getting a weaker GPU.

With the 3900x it was a gift, I didn't have to pay for it, so I decided to use it. What changes would you recommend then? MOBO, I mean.
And your comment about this CPU?
You can spend around $800 to improve it.

I understand your concern about knowing what has been considered before. Let's focus on the current situation and what remains to be addressed.

Yes, sorry I should've mentioned something earlier.
I currently have the RAM, CPU, and cooler, along with the case, but it could work on another PC. I'm open to getting a better one if you think it's a poor choice.
The CPU was a gift, so I can invest in a higher-quality one. I plan to use this current CPU in another system.

The 3900X is a solid CPU unless your high frame rate demands would make me switch. The cooler should also perform well.
I’m not facing any issues with the build, and I also use Meshify C for my setup. Since you mentioned wanting to use it as a media server, I assume you also plan to use it for gaming, which is why you’re considering the 3060?

Yes, I prefer not to engage in overly intense games, so I considered a 3060 as a balanced option. The media server wouldn't operate continuously just to experiment and test its capabilities.

Could it be that Plex is installed locally, possibly using a version like 3060? This would align well with your setup since it suggests both CPU and GPU are sufficient for your needs.

I've examined Plex and might experiment with it for my family, though I thought it would cover the basics I need. Everything will be Local. Would you think the MOBO is acceptable? I wasn't certain about it and, besides, two others told me it's not a good choice, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't work.

Fair enough, for 'basic stuff' I'd say a 3900X would be excessive for 12 cores. On the board side, the VRMs in the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge were a bit underwhelming. Hardware Unboxed ran some tests and likely got around 115°C with the 3900X and a minor overclock. I can't quote you but it seems this board might share the same VRM layout, so it's probably best to skip it. The B550 Mag Tomahawk would be a safer choice—it handles things well and stays cool even during overclocking. I've used several Mag boards, including B550 Mag Tomahawk, B460 Mag Mortar, and Z490 Mag Tomahawk, and their VRMs perform strongly.
