Advice on PC upgrade?
Hah, I don't really like it either, but it matches the other options and won't cause any issues if they're okay with swapping the RAM right now. Definitely recommend getting a better PSU if you can find a good deal on a used RTX 2080 or RX 6700 (XT). Either way, the existing PSU should be replaced.
These are the improvements I'm considering:
Power supply: Corsair CV650 (the one you suggested)
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2070 or RX 6600
Memory: 2 x 8 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8) (available at a great price)
What do you think about choosing a 2070 or a 6600? Are there any significant differences?
A 2070 performs roughly 10 to 20 percent better than the RX 6600.
It's mainly about the wash factor; the RX 6600 performs well in some scenarios while the RTX 2070 excels in others. Both struggle with 4K resolution and ray tracing, which favors the RTX 2070. The decision hinges on cost—if you can find a used RTX 2070 at a much lower price than the new RX 6600, it's worth considering. Otherwise, opt for the newer RX 6600, which offers better efficiency and longer driver support, making it a clear choice. If both are used and similar in price, the RX 6600 remains preferable due to its newer status. Also, when purchasing a used card, MSI provides warranties on the hardware itself, not the seller, so ensure the card is within three years of production to qualify for coverage.
