Advice on moving a Steam folder to a new drive
I tried Linus’s advice about lightly touching the hard drive. Now I plan to transfer my Steam folder from the old drive (D) to the new one (G) after reformatting the old one. Do you have any suggestions on how to do this? My setup includes three drives: C for SSD Boot Drive D, E and F for the old 1 TB drive, and G as the new 2 TB drive.
Stop using Steam. Paste the folder into a new drive (Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V works well, especially if your install is large). Save any shortcuts or taskbar pins to the new path (they’re often missed). Launch Steam from the G: drive and navigate to Settings -> Downloads -> Steam Library Folders. Insert the copied folder into the G: location, make it the default. Make sure you’ve transferred everything from D: to G: before deleting D:. After clearing D:, restart Steam, then go back to the library folders and delete the old G: folder if needed.
