Advice on improving CPU and cooler for older computers
Currently available
Ryzen 5 3600
MSI B 550M PRO VDH-WIFI
No CPU cooler included
Looking at
Ryzen 7 5700X
Noctua NH-U12S
I'm located in Canada and checking prices on Amazon.ca
The 5700X is priced at $173.98 when on sale, starting from $238.99, while the NH-U12S is $94.95 at regular price
What are your thoughts on this direction? I selected the cooler based on compatibility checks for the motherboard and CPU on PCPartPicker. If you have a more affordable alternative in mind, that would be ideal.
Same applies to the CPU choice.
If a comparable set-up with better value is available, that's perfect.
Thanks ahead of time.
Noctua U12 works well. I own one. However, there are other coolers priced between 20 to 40 less that perform similarly. Thermalright Peerless Assassin and at least another model come up often in this forum. It seems they are usually dual towers rather than the single tower found on the U12. Be sure the cooler fits your case size.
depends on your GPU and what you plan to play and your budget!
5800x3d or 5600x3d or 5700x3d noctua NH u12a would make a solid pair.
Also check out some Thermalright coolers, but most are dual towers.
If you choose the Noctua U12a, it's better than the U12s with more heat pipes and similar to the D15s!
