Advice: Lenovo Legion
Advice: Lenovo Legion
Hi everyone,
I’ve been carefully evaluating laptops for about a year and refining my budget.
All my findings suggest the Lenovo Legion is the most value for money.
I’m leaning toward the RTX 3070, but the gains from the RTX 3080 aren’t significant enough to justify the extra cost.
Right now, I’m weighing my options between:
- An Intel CPU instead of AMD, since the performance boosts in games are more noticeable with Intel.
- The Lenovo Legion 5 with an Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD, paired with the RTX 3070.
- The Lenovo Legion 7 (2021) with an Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, and a larger 1TB SSD.
The Legion 5 seems like the best balance for my needs.
I’m considering the price difference and whether a better build or more storage would justify the extra £200+.
I’m also curious about the new 2022 models—if they’re over £2000 with the latest GPUs and RAM, I might wait for a better deal.
But honestly, I’m starting to feel the urgency and want to secure one soon.
Any suggestions or alternative ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I’m based in the UK, using the laptop mainly for gaming.
Memory cards, webcams, and sound quality aren’t priorities for me.
Budget range: around £1500 to £1600.
Screen size between 15.6” and 17”.
Open to any brands, but I’m focusing on CPU and GPU performance.
Upgrading memory later is not my preference.
I purchased a Lenovo Legion 5 15ITH6h laptop a few months ago. It has the same setup with a 3060 GPU. It's one of the top laptops I've ever owned. It delivers over 80 FPS in games at ultra settings. The only issue is with the keyboard—some keys feel stiff and difficult to press. The screen also appears a bit dim, even though it supports Dolby Vision; it doesn't support HDR.
If you intend to use the built-in display, a brightness of 500 nits will allow HDR to work properly. A 3070 display should handle the higher pixel density in QHD without any problems.
Ok… thanks guys.
I think I’m gonna go with the cheaper version.
Yeah only using it for gaming and web browsing or watching movies.
My old laptop was only 60Hz screen 1080p and that was fine. I also plug the laptop into my 4k TV when playing as well so, the screen is ultimately not the biggest deal.
Also — any thoughts on waiting for the Legion refresh versions ? Might prompt further sales? Or are they worth paying a bit extra for? Well assuming the AMD versions might be under £2000??
Maybe not….
If not I’m gonna pull the trigger on this bad boy — I’ve waited long enough.
looking forward to getting back into Total War Warhammer !
I was planning to wait for the updated version of the Legion

But I’m not sure I’ll make the effort…

small enhancements — CPU and DDR5 RAM. Not sure if it’s worth the wait…
I just purchased the NEW Legion 5i Pro 16 i7 12700H with RTX 3070ti, 1TB SSD and 16GB DDR5 RAM for £1700. It feels like a decent deal considering I was planning to buy the Legion 7 for £1699, but the marketing seems a bit lacking. It’s hard to tell they’re even available, and there aren’t many reviews out there.
