Advice for boosting performance on an old Q9450 with an Asus P5Q-Deluxe MOBO.
Advice for boosting performance on an old Q9450 with an Asus P5Q-Deluxe MOBO.
Hello everyone, I purchased this CPU a few years back and never overclocked it mostly because I was worried about damaging the chip, even though you might need to try it to cause issues. Now, I’m planning to upgrade my PC in a couple of weeks, so I thought it would be a good idea to overclock it. Perhaps I can get a Z170 with an unlocked CPU to boost performance on my new build.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
MOBO: Asus P5Q Deluxe
Memory: Super-Talent DDR2 4x2GB at 399.9MHz
GPU: Asus GTX 650 Ti 1GB
CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 4
PSU: Soly Tech SL-8500BTX 500W (I know it’s not great)
I’ve found some tutorials on overclocking modern MOBOs, and they seemed straightforward. When I entered my BIOS, I got quite confused by the Overclocking settings since they were very different. Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks!
Search for Core 2 Quad overclocking instructions.
The simplest approach is to adjust the FSB speed to 400, enable memory synchronization, and set all voltages to their standard values or default settings.
This method works well for most FSB333 45nm Core 2 models.
The current FSB speed is typically around 3200-3600 MHz, depending on the motherboard and system configuration.
