Advice for Asus motherboards that cycle RGB during shutdown
Occasionally the RGB lights on my Asus Tuf B550-PLUS and Asus KO-RTX-3060ti change colors after turning off or when in sleep mode. While some might enjoy this effect, sensory sensitivities related to autism make it bothersome for me. I discovered a fix last night for anyone wanting to turn it off. In BIOS, go to Advanced → APM configuration → ErP ready → Enable → S4+S5. It seems to set up a standby mode, but it only works during shutdown, not sleep.
I turn off all hybrid sleep features, hibernation, and fast boot functions. When I shut down my PC, I prefer it to simply power down. I also installed a power switch on my socket so I don’t have to unplug the power strip. No power means no lights, no power usage, and no risks.
On my setup with the Asus Prime Z370, the strip along the RAM area is stuck off even when the system is active.
It might be useful to have an Amazon basic surge protector that works with Alexa. I tried one on my Christmas tree so I could switch it off using the Alexa app.
I realized that software was still available. All lighting is managed via Corsair iCUE, which handles the motherboard and my RTX3090 together. After turning on the RGB through Armoury Crate it functions properly again. Everything stops completely when the system shuts down. It works just like before in iCUE. Appreciate the helpful advice!
Yeah, I have a Commander Core XT myself. For five of six fans and the hub of the sixth, I use temp monitor, with the outer of the center front indicating audio signal level. For some weird reason, when iCUE switches from hardware lighting, everything goes dark except for the center front's outer ring for a moment, then returns. *shrugs*. Annoying, but I'm not sure I can do anything about it.
Corsair software has always been quite an experience. Initially it was another device riddled with issues. Then iCUE arrived, but it still had problems. I’m using Commander Pro with five BQ Silent wing fans installed. Oddly enough, the system won’t automatically check CPU or GPU temps unless I manually load CPUidWrapper64.dll. This has been consistent for a long time. I keep it pinned in TaskBar so fans stay cool whenever I play or stress the machine. Regarding lighting, I prefer plain white—adjusting everything to a solid shade is straightforward. It really looks nice!
