Advanced system utilizing light for data transmission.
The idea is clear, but practical challenges are huge. Fiber optics can move data fast, but building such a system would be expensive and complex. It’s more of a theoretical concept than something realistic to create.
Idfog. Very close you think there’s no chance light would be nearly as dependable or quick as copper/gold connections because of the delay and steps between signal and signal. For the internet? Absolutely! You can pull some solid mbps from a fiber optic line, but it travels to your house and into your router—not directly to your computer.
Additionally, there are fiber optic devices available locally, including SFP-based Fibre Channel solutions.
I understand it sounds absurd at first. I’m curious about the potential benefits of such an approach. It might require a huge computer, but it could allow parts to be placed far apart yet still function.
It would be easier if you chose a frequency with flawless mirrors, but since optics are tricky, performance and size would likely suffer.
You'd waste a lot of momentum, turning your GTX 1080 TI into a GT 410
