This was before multithreading existed. Dropping two full threads now severely impacts performance, particularly on a dual-core system.

It will work smoother with four threads in multithreaded programs. Some specialized single-thread scenarios might gain from HT disabled, but overall it performs better when enabled. The Pentium 4 HT faced this issue due to limited cache size, making it struggle to support both threads effectively.
