Adjusting voltage on a 7700x can be risky—consult guidelines carefully.
Hello, as discussed in my previous updates I'm likely going through some issues with the newly built PC. Initially there was a problem with the 7700x under RMA, now I found a faulty RAM module that needs replacement under warranty. While I reassembled the system, it successfully passed memtest86, OCCT, Furmark and Unigine Superposition with no errors. Before this issue arose, I followed certain CPU undervolting instructions from a YouTube guide in the BIOS settings. I adjusted the CPU ratio mode, clock ratios, and V-core voltages until idle temperatures stabilized around 45-55°C. Even with PBO level 2 (maximum 80°C), the temperatures stayed higher than desired. I'm seeking a more efficient and quieter setup but am concerned about applying these settings again after the previous CPU failure. Would you be able to assist?
Undervolting the CPU isn't risky unless it's unstable; it will shut down to protect itself. In my view, PBO plus Curve Optimizer is the best approach. Tweaking the fan curve can help reduce noise. Ryzen 7000 chips tend to overheat regardless of temperature, so they need careful management.
We stick to traditional static settings. With Ryzen, we apply Curve Optimizer as shown in the video. Most of the sound comes from adjusting fan curves. Using a motherboard's default curve often leads to excessive noise regardless of CPU activity, which is just too harsh.
Sure, you can skip introducing the power limit unless it’s necessary for understanding the temperature drop. Check the written guide or documentation for that section—it often explains how to set it correctly. The screenshot you mentioned should help clarify the values.
