Adjusting the speed of the Intel G3258 processor without a cooler is possible.
I’ve just made the choice to buy the components for my first gaming PC... Here’s what I’m planning:
- CPU: Pentium G3258
- Motherboard: Gigabyte H81m-h
- Graphics Card: old GTX 560 Ti 1gb
- RAM: 2x4gb at 1600 Mhz
- Power Supply: Thermaltake 430w Tr2
- Case and HDD: Using the ones from my previous desktop.
I know that unlocking the G3258’s performance requires overclocking, but I’m short on funds for a cooler. I wanted to find out if it’s feasible to push the CPU up to 3.9–4.0 Ghz without a cooler. Also, could you let me know if this setup will support games like GTA V, Arkham Knight, FIFA 16, the latest COD, and Witcher 3? For medium settings at 1080p, around 30 fps should be sufficient for me.
Thank you very much, and I’m really looking forward to diving into PC gaming for the first time.
PS: I can’t afford to upgrade my GPU or buy an i3 because the currency situation in my country is unstable and prices are too high.
Yes, the stock cooler works adequately. You should be able to reach 4.0 without too much trouble.
The outcome mainly hinges on the luck with the chip.
Typically, you hit vcore limits before thermal limits are reached.
Thermaltake T@2 is a tier 5 (not recommended). It's best to replace the ASAP unit on this list:

Consider looking at Seasonic, xfx, or antec for better quality.
