Adjusting the clock speeds of the FX CPU and RAM.
Adjusting the clock speeds of the FX CPU and RAM.
Hello, I've been adjusting my FX8320 to higher speeds, currently reaching 4.2ghz, but it's reducing my RAM performance from 800mhz to 640mhz. I'm wondering how to maintain or even boost RAM speeds back to 800mhz. I have a BIOS option for overclocking RAM, but I'm new to this and don't know if there are any tips. How crucial are RAM speeds for gaming? I play across various titles like GTA 5, Minecraft, and Fallout.
My setup includes:
- CPU: FX 8320
- Cooler: Hyper Evo 212
- Motherboard: ASRock 980DE3/U3S3
- GPU: Radeon R7 360
- RAM: Two 2GB sticks at 1600MHz (Gskill)
- PSU: Evga 80+Bronze, 430W
I'm curious about the best methods to keep RAM stable or improve its performance.

- RAM: 2x4GB GSKILL 1600MHz
- PSU: Evga 80+Bronze 430W
At 4.2Ghz it's not too far from the turbo limit, so pushing to 4.5Ghz might help. RAM speeds seem to have little impact on performance, but they shouldn't drop too much either. Don't worry!

At 4.2Ghz, turbo boosts are already close to the limit. I'm considering pushing it to 4.5Ghz and wondering if RAM speeds really matter much. It seems unlikely that changing them will harm the system, just ensure you revert to your desired settings in BIOS.
