Good Day Everyone, Great Site You Have Here.
I'm looking for assistance with overclocking an older system. Every attempt fails. I've checked numerous suggestions online using the same CPU and MOBO, but nothing works.

My setup includes:
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
Extreme Quad Core QX9650 or X9650 (sometimes called???)
OCZ 4X2GB (8GB) at 800MHz SLI RAM
KINGSTON A400 with 960GB SSD
EVGA-850-BQ PSU
ANTEC WATER-COOLER (fan on each side of radiator)
AMD R9 270X
4 HARD DISCS (4X2TB = 8TB) WITH FAN

I mainly want to overclock the CPU, RAM, and GPU for fun. I don’t play much games but use Photo Shop and a few other CPU-heavy apps. After trying many combinations, I suspect something might be wrong.

I also have additional CPUs available, such as the Q9650 and Q6600. I’m unsure which one performs better compared to the QX9650. I also have extra OCZ RAM that isn’t SLI compatible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It really depends, I haven't used quad-core CPUs before. I believe you should connect via FSB, though I'm not sure about the QX series—maybe they support multiple unlocked options.
