Hello, I'm checking if overclocking is feasible on the Ryzen 5 1600 with its built-in cooler. If possible, I'd like to know how much I should adjust and whether it's safer or simpler to tweak in BIOS versus Ryzen Master. Additionally, any advice for overclocking RAM would be helpful.

Do you have an AF 1600? They are actually derived from the Zen 1.5 process, similar to the Ryzen 2600, not Zen 1. Check the model number on your box—it should end in AF or AE if they’re based on Zen 1. Overclocking possibilities depend on this. The stock cooler for an 1600 offers almost no cooling power (it’s very cool at stock), so you’ll need to upgrade it first. Tips for overclocking RAM... start by updating the BIOS on your motherboard. The exact steps will vary based on your situation.

Overclocking using the standard cooler is achievable, though performance gains would be limited by the quality of the heatsink and fan. I prefer BIOS settings over BIOS tools like Ryzen Master. With RAM overclocking, I don’t exceed factory limits for safety, but on my MOBO (B450 Tomahawk), there are multiple BIOS options for overclocking with built-in safeguards.

Do you own an AF 1600? They are actually derived from the Zen 1.5 process, similar to the Ryzen 2600, not Zen 1. Check your box for the model number—should it end in AF or AE if they're based on Zen 1. Overclocking options will differ accordingly. Also, the standard cooler for a 1600 offers minimal cooling power (a 1600 is quite cool at stock), so you should definitely upgrade that first.

Tips for overclocking RAM... start by updating your BIOS on the motherboard. The exact steps depend on your specific model—like avoiding the Ryzen 3000 BIOS if you have a B350.

Second: download tools such as Ryzen DRAMCalculator and Taifun Burner. You'll need them. Then watch this video demonstrating how to use them effectively. Keep in mind that adjusting memory on a Ryzen 3000 with an improved controller can achieve higher speeds, though the method remains similar.

It's also crucial to confirm whether your processor is based on Ryzen 2000 or the original Ryzen 1000 series, as this influences the timing settings you should use.
