I looked for ways to lower HP or reduce weapon power, but only found sneaking-related mods. I need a method to play the game with their voice and quests while preventing them from defeating most opponents. I’m new to the game, on hard difficulty, level 10, with a companion, but I notice they easily eliminate me. Is there a way to enjoy the experience without risking defeat, or should I stick to combat perks and drugs? My goal is to play for fun, not become addicted.

Give them a less powerful weapon, such as a pipe pistol.

I handed it to Preston Garvey, and he keeps making my experience better with his built-in, overpowered energy weapon. It stays with him because it isn't in his inventory during the trade option.

After completing most of the vanilla gameplay while skipping certain DLCs, using these less powerful companions feels rewarding [meaning they lack extra weapons and don’t ruin the experience]: ● Cait ● John Hancock ● Nick Valentine ● Piper Wright ● Robert MacCready For the robots [Ada, Codsworth, Curie], they can be broken down into simpler forms.
