It's not about overclocking the socket, just using BaseCLock. Try it out—I didn't manage to get my 3570K running smoothly above 103.5MHz, whether with or without a GPU.

Sure, I'm a bit unclear about what you're asking. You seem to be wondering if you should upgrade your clock beyond the current 3.9-4GHz range, especially since the base clock is 3.3GHz and you're already close to that. Also, do you think a CMOS reset would bring it back to factory settings if it goes over 3.8GHz?

You were near 4.6ghz. Always reset CMOS and begin anew unless your CPU was severely damaged, which is difficult to achieve.

Yes, you can switch back to a different setting if needed since the device supports dual BIOS.

You can't change BIOS settings using the gigabytes dual-bios setup. If the first BIOS is found to be damaged, the second one is copied onto it. Also note I have a 3570K model, not a standard one.
