Hello everyone, I own a B450M with a Rizen 5 3600X and recently upgraded to an RX 6600. I’m trying to turn on the resize bar or AMD SAM, but some people say I need to update my BIOS, others mention needing a series processor like the AMD 5000. I’ve looked online, watched many videos, and found several CPUs with similar specs that have the technology enabled. I’m confused about the best way to do this or if an upgrade is necessary. It’s been a while since I started researching, and I’m struggling to figure it out. Thank you all for your help!
Look for a setting in your bios to adjust the bar size. If not available, update the bios and verify again. Both GPU and CPU are compatible with this feature.
I've checked the updates, my profile is now at version f40. In f60 it mentions the AMD AGESA ComboV2 1.2.0.0 release for Ryzen™ 5000/4000 chips, highlighting support for AMD Smart Access Memory.
By default, BIOS updates only introduce compatibility for newer processors; they don’t eliminate existing support for older CPUs. There have been rare instances where this occurred, though strong advisories usually warn users not to upgrade if their system uses such chips.
These updates are optional additions, not required beforehand—they just include new features.
Upgrade AMD AGESA ComboV2 1.2.0.0 to enable support for AMD Smart Access Memory. Before installing the latest BIOS version, adhere to the instructions in the BIOS F40 guide provided. This ensures compatibility with your Ryzen™ 5000/4000 series chips.
It's important to stay vigilant about BIOS updates, especially if the CPU model might not be supported anymore. I didn't encounter any major warnings with my M.S. B350, but it's wise to check the fine print. Most people assume GPUs handle certain features like Rebar, though a VBIOS update could still be necessary. My 3070 would likely work, but I wouldn't risk a system with questionable performance improvements. Windows also has minimum requirements, so keeping everything current is key. In short, everything should be updated to the latest compatible version.
Certainly! Just review the F40 details prior to updating, adhere to the guidelines, and double-check that your existing CPU compatibility remains intact.
