Curious about the Witcher 3 settings issue? This is 1080p: at low quality I see around 40-50 fps with noticeable stutter. On ultra settings everything (shadows, distant objects) drops to 30-40 fps with similar stutter. I lock it at 30 and get smooth gameplay. Medium settings work decently, but high still struggles for performance—often dropping to just 5 fps. Your specs are solid: 4770k base, 8GB RAM, 760GB SSD at 1280mhz.

Disable hairworks older generation NVIDIA GPUs as they also face significant challenges with it.

I improve by 3-4 frames when I do that... but that’s not the goal. On low it’s 40-50 and it stutters a lot, making it unplayable. When I set the game to 30, it stops stuttering and runs smoothly at 30fps with no issues. On ultra, I get solid 30fps and no stutter, but at low it drops to 40-50 and becomes unplayable. The difference in performance between low and ultra is minimal for me.

Nvidia has recognized the issue with non-maxwell GPUs and is developing a solution. It’s likely the upcoming driver will provide a significant improvement.

Same applies for you too, so I boosted it to keep 40-50 frames running at near ultra levels. It didn’t reach 60 on the lower settings.

Adjust the buffer limit to 1 in the NVIDIA control panel. It may not function, but worth a shot.

I'm using a single 290 at 1440p with high settings (no audio) and getting between 40-50 frames per second without any stuttering.
