Adjust the frame rate limit in the game settings.
Full system details are listed in the signature section. Running Windows 8.1 with the latest updates, Dead Space 2 and Dawn of War 2 (Warhammer 40,000) Retribution are experiencing issues. My GPU is being heavily loaded at 95-100% while delivering over 340 FPS. I need help controlling the frame rate for these games. V-sync is set to 1/2 refresh (35 Hz), but DoW2 doesn’t allow enabling V-sync in CCC. The “Wait for Vertical Refresh” option is always enabled, which isn’t helping. I’ve created custom profiles for each title, but they don’t seem to work. D3D Overrider worked with Dead Space 1 on Windows 7, not on this version. With Windows 8.1, any chance of limiting the frame rate so the GPU doesn’t overwork is needed?
Confirming game stats. Set desired FPS and test with VSync disabled in-game as well.
If CCC matches NVCP’s capabilities, you should be able to define profiles for specific games that allow Vsync via always on or application control. This feature is useful for games lacking a direct Vsync option. I think such settings exist, though my experience with CCC is limited.
I experienced some wild frame jumps too. I’ve tried this before and it’s not fun—skipping is annoying and I’m stuck with the pain.
PCGamingWiki offers additional suggestions beyond your previous attempts. It's uncertain if these will suit you, but worth trying.
Thanks, I wasn't expecting it would function since D3DOverrider is part of RivaTuner, but I gave it a try and it did work. It might be an updated version or something similar. Apparently, the option I selected didn’t impact the games at all. Regarding the frame skips, it seems the engine is being limited to around 60 frames per second for your monitor’s resolution. In Dead Space, running at 30 FPS instead of ~200 makes a difference. The lights keep strobing due to monster attacks and because the game runs at 200, causing a strange pattern where three or more alternating black-and-white frames appear on screen. I’m glad I don’t experience seizures from this. The HD 7870 can get noisy when running at 97% speed to display all those frames clearly. Thanks for the help—I’ll save this as a useful reference for later.
