Adjust the color depth settings on Ubuntu to change saturation levels.
Hello everyone, I'm facing an issue with Ubuntu 20.04.2 where the colors appear faded and muted, especially in Firefox and the default image viewer. Screenshots show this effect clearly. On Windows 10, the display looks normal. Searching online hasn't yielded much useful information, as most suggestions point to using the NVIDIA control panel. Since I have an AMD Ryzen mobile CPU and it's a laptop, the screen lacks physical buttons or settings menus. Changing ICC profiles hasn't improved the situation, though colors are slightly different. I've asked the same question in the Discord server but haven't received a response, so I'm trying to troubleshoot on my own. Any Linux experts here would be greatly appreciated.
Adjust your window manager to modify display settings. Based on the screenshot, you're likely using the default GNOME window manager. Check system settings for options. Also, confirm whether Ubuntu is installed directly on the machine or within a virtual environment.
I've reviewed that discussion already. The "calibrate" option is disabled unless you purchase a screen calibration tool, and even then, I have an ICC color profile for the laptop's display, which doesn't seem to assist much. The second response mentions using the NVIDIA control panel, but I can't access it because I use AMD. The window manager manages global color settings, though there isn't a dedicated setting in the options to adjust them. You can manage ICC profiles, toggle their use, or calibrate them with a simple tool. I'm running dual boot between Windows and Ubuntu.
