Conducting some tests, I wanted to understand how a 2x4GB setup would behave. However, I only have an 8GB drive available. While you can adjust memory limits in Windows, I’m not sure how it affects allocation or if you can control where the space is used to prevent a full 8GB single-channel limit.

The purpose is clear, but the details matter. Two 2x4s running at identical speeds with a dual channel setup offer similar performance.

Windows manages memory mapping itself, not the physical layout. The memory controller handles this. Instead of enforcing a strict 16GB limit plus page file size, Windows limits itself via software by defining a virtual memory size of around 8GB plus your actual page file size.

Focusing benchmarks on 8GB while keeping Dual Channel active. Edit: Regretful about the delayed response—seems I missed configuring notifications.

Might help identify slow spots in games or systems by checking how much memory they use with limited RAM, like testing if a 2x4GB dual channel setup works for a particular game or task. Don’t worry about your ego—just focus on the details. lol!
