It matches the behavior of that Intel LAN controller. They’re quite particular about their connections. The issue of disconnecting when you try to use gigabit speed suggests either the cable is low quality—such as a CCA type instead of a proper copper wire—or there’s another factor at play. I’ve noticed this before, which is why I’m bringing it up.

A Verizon specialist will arrive on Monday. After my roommate connected his laptop to the outlet and the connection was slow, speeds changed even on Wi-Fi. The only steady speed came from the router to Verizon, consistently around 900 Mbps. I used a USB Ethernet adapter with 1 gigabit port and it worked similarly for my roommate. My roommates canceled their scheduled call for tomorrow because we’re now seeing proper speeds. Regarding the cable, perhaps moving my PC nearer the router and trying a different cable could help. The Verizon tech agreed, suggesting the issue might be with the system’s ability to detect quality.
