I understand your concern about needing a lower frame rate in Half Life. I’ll walk you through the steps. I’m planning a roughly nine-hour flight to Hawaii and thought it would be a good opportunity to play. I’ll be using a 2012 Macbook Pro with Windows installed—it’s a newer machine than my old laptop, so I don’t want to worry about that. I’m curious about adjusting the settings in case the plane lacks power outlets, which would help extend gameplay and keep things cooler. Let me know how to do it. Thanks!

If your system supports AMD or NVidia graphics, you can apply Rivertuner or MSI Afterburner; for Intel graphics, Dxtory works well. Search online for instructions on how to reduce FPS with these tools. It's quite straightforward. I use Afterburner on my computer and Dxtory on my tablet. Either will accomplish the task.

^This^. Even though my 2006 Toshiba Tecra M5 managed more than four hours on its 12-cell battery while running Half-Life 1, it’s quite an outdated system.

Unfortunately, it's only an iGPU.

Uses minimal energy. Just run at basic levels. The iGPU would almost stop when playing HL1. But with HL2 it could change—at least on an Intel 915GML (2006 Asus A3H) it reached nearly 60fps, meaning the demand would rise, though still light for the iGPU.

The console command should be "fps_max ##". Set "fps_override 1" in the main menu. Keep in mind that adjusting FPS might affect other engine components, but most issues arise when you disable the FPS cap (i.e., let it exceed 100).

The game likely includes a VSync feature. Are you seeking a replacement for this functionality?
