You recently purchased a 5800X but are experiencing inconsistent temperatures. During startup, the CPU temperature spikes between 70°C and 80°C when background apps launch. On Cinebench, it reaches high 80s Celsius, though not exceeding 90°C. Voltage readings are unusually high, with a maximum of 1.488V observed for the CPU voltage. Are there methods to reduce overall voltage without noticeably affecting performance, similar to the voltage curve control available for GPUs? Also, note that cooling is provided by a Noctua NH-U12S fan with a single push button.

AMD designs these chips to run extremely hot right out of the box. You can lower the voltage a lot without seeing much drop in performance.

I've tested it, but no temperature gains were noticed. I only achieved a steady negative 15 offset, and anything above 20 causes an immediate crash when running cinebench.

It seems your system is different from the standard U12, using an NH-L12S board. Are you checking how to check the VDD voltage?

Track VDD with hwmonitor. Decide whether to adjust via BIOS or Ryzen Master based on your needs.

I used the BIOS and everything went smoothly. I thought going through Master would be similar to adjusting fan curves in a fan controller program—maybe it could work, but not sure.

I found a way to set my highest to -23, which worked surprisingly. For cinebench, I adjusted from 14900s to 14300s. The room temps stayed in the 80s under cinebench. Score went down but temperature didn’t. I’m considering adding a 240mm AIO to the 5800x to possibly improve cooling. From my past experience, it doesn’t quite match up with the u12s.

I found a way to set my highest to -23, which worked surprisingly. For cinebench, I adjusted from 14900s to 14300s. The room temps stayed in the 80s under cinebench. Score went down but temperature didn’t. I’m considering adding a 240mm AIO to the 5800x to possibly improve cooling. From my past experience, it doesn’t quite match up with the u12s.

I investigated further and discovered 5800x tends to overheat. Reports indicate temperatures reaching 80°C during stress tests, 40-50°C in idle mode, and 60°C or higher while using the PC or browsing. I’ve reset all configurations back to standard, activated XMP profile and turned off PBO instead of keeping it enabled automatically, allowing the CPU to manage its own performance.

It reaches about 82°C during Cinebench on an HD-15, which is after applying a gentle undervolt as demonstrated in the video IkeaGnome shared with an offset of -18 for all cores. For lower temps, you might try a more aggressive undervolt as suggested in the video—either enable a negative auto overclock offset of -50MHz or lower your PBO limits (such as reducing EDC and PPT). You could also use ClockTuner 2.0 for Ryzen to automatically adjust the undervolt.

I've successfully reached 4.7ghz—boosted at 53°C during stress tests and 38°C at idle—using these configurations for VRM (stable at 40°C under load). I set the clock to 4.7ghz and had CPU voltage auto-adjusted, which didn't affect performance while saving power. I'm curious if this works for you, though it's just what I've tried. 210418221500.BMP
