Adjust CPU voltage for Alderlake-H processor
Hello! I have a laptop equipped with Alderlake-H and an Intel Core i5 12600H processor. When I attempted to run "TS Bench" via throttlestop, the CPU temperatures quickly reached around 100 degrees, and the fans began to spin up. After the fans activated, most cores stayed below 100 degrees, though core 0 and occasionally one more core hit the 100-degree mark. I had two options: either adjust the fan speed manually or try CPU undervolting. The first attempt was to manually tweak the fan speed using the BIOS settings, but it didn’t help—possibly because the EC chip was managing the fan speed. I then tried undervolting, checked BIOS options like enabling overclocking, disabling protection features, and adjusting power settings, but none of these resolved the issue. I also attempted to undervolt directly from the BIOS by setting a core offset of '-50mV', but it still didn’t work. Could you help? Also, if you know the laptop brand, it might be hard to identify since it’s not widely advertised. Thanks!
No relation to UVP. The undervolt option isn't available. Intel eliminated it to increase pricing for HX processors.
Sure, I understand. Disabling the UVP should let you manually adjust the CPU voltage. It makes sense that Intel wants consumers to use HX processors for this reason, as undervolting won't damage anything and can actually help extend the CPU's life by preventing overheating. Probably they aim for people to replace their CPUs every couple of years, so limiting undervolting encourages buying new ones. Thanks for asking!
