Addressing the 8.3 filename issue
Addressing the 8.3 filename issue
I used Aomei NTFS to FAT32 Converter to transform files without losing data. After finishing, I encountered issues with file names. For instance, about 80% of the files turned into something like pn0 pn1 … and the names got cut off. Other languages appeared strange and unreadable when trying to rename them. Windows recognized previous names and asked for numbers because duplicates existed. When I changed the extension manually, it prompted a warning asking if I was sure. I recovered the original name, so it seems the files were saved somewhere. The problem might be reversible.
You asked for an explanation of the situation. This appears to involve a machine with storage concerns. The system is designed not to be easily reversible, and the Windows warning about duplicates suggests multiple files sharing the same initial characters. Changing an extension may fail because existing files already exist with the same name prefix.
I did this on external hard drive because of mac os nonsense about ntfs here is the thing when Windows telling you about duplicates it shows the original name as full but after hit ok it get back to 8.3 filename it is weird look at this pic this is after yes
Absolutely, that's the best approach. Always back up first and don't rely solely on 'no loss' solutions—have a backup ready just in case things go wrong.
