I am experiencing significant stuttering in Apex Legends on my Dell Inspiron 7000 Gaming laptop, which I purchased nearly three years ago. The issue began two weeks ago and manifests as a consistent 10-second period of FPS drops from 70-80 to 30-40, followed by stabilization. I am unsure whether this is due to the laptop's age or a game-specific problem, as Apex Legends is currently my only played title. Previously, I successfully played Just Cause 3 without encountering similar issues with Apex Legends at the time.

Specifications:
Intel i7 7700 HQ @2.80 GHz
Nvidia Geforce 1050 Ti 4 GB
16 GB RAM
1 TB HDD and 256 GB SSD

Raising or lowering the power limit, if feasible on the laptop’s motherboard, increases power consumption and subsequently raises temperatures. The power limit may be locked, requiring verification. Investigate whether an “All Core/Multi Core Enhancement” feature exists; this would cause the CPU to operate near its single-core turbo speeds.

What are your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming, particularly during the periods of instability? Are you regularly updating your drivers?

Do you have a frame rate limit set in Nvidia Control Panel? I was experiencing similar issues with COD MW after the Season 2 update and disabling the frame rate limit in Nvidia Control Panel resolved the problem.

I monitor temperatures with Throttle Stop. The CPU typically maintains a temperature of 40°-50°C during idle and 60°-70°C while gaming. Occasionally, it has reached 90°C, though I haven’t observed this during actual gameplay – the software displays a maximum temperature of 90°C when I Alt+Tab. The GPU remains at 60°-70°C. My laptop is fully updated with Windows, Nvidia, and Intel updates.

I have not set a limit either in the game or within the control panel. I have also verified that it remains off.

The CPU’s standard critical temperature is 100°C. Dell may have configured a thermal limit of 90°C within the BIOS settings. If you were running other applications on your laptop, it would be easier to determine whether the issue is related to the game or a broader system problem. Please click the green icon labeled “human” to proceed – UserBenchmark. Share the link to your results.

There exists a potential resolution and I can outline it for you. My experience indicates the problem stems from my laptop, not other games or general frame rate issues; this is supported by research on Apex Legends’ Reddit where few users report similar stuttering, and those who do experience frame rate problems are distinct from my situation. I have lowered the resolution to 1600x900, which provided some improvement but resulted in unacceptable visual quality. I intend to maintain this resolution until a solution is discovered or a new laptop is purchased.

Without the BIOS manual, or anything similar, it would be difficult to do that. All I could say was to go into the BIOS and find the CPU Thermal Limit/Max Temperature Limit, probably under advanced CPU settings... that's not very helpful, huh? Home - UserBenchmark Post the URL to your results. It will provide a visual sample to work with.

I will attempt to resolve this, thank you for your assistance. I investigated power limit throttling using Google and installed Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, which indicates a “Yes” status for throttling while gaming. Numerous guides exist to disable this feature, but I find them confusing and wish to avoid unintended consequences. Therefore, could someone provide guidance?
