I observe that during gameplay in Fallout 4 on my budget build, my performance remains stable at low to medium settings, but sudden lag spikes disrupt the experience, leading to freezes and stuttering. Can you suggest ways to improve it so it runs smoother or is it expected for such a system? Specs: Intel Pentium G3220 R7, 250x RAM, 4GB DDR3, 1600MHz CPU. The culprit appears to be the high CPU usage. For future upgrades, what are the best CPU and GPU options that fit a budget under $330 next year? I’m planning to replace the CPU and GPU soon. Case: FBM-01, motherboard: Gigabyte H81M-H, power supply: 650W Bronze 80+ efficient unit, cooler: stock model, RAM: 1600MHz.

For the upgrade, we should identify the motherboard, power supply, cooler, etc. At this price point of $330, options include a R9 390, a decent I5 processor, cooling solution, or an I3 with a GTX 960. We require additional details.

I think an i5 + 960 or 950 works well if you check prices on Amazon, Newegg, or NCIX US.

It performs worse at 1080 than at 1440, which is disappointing. They’ll likely need a driver for it.

Certainly! I'll pay extra attention to your lag spike problem as well.

You're experiencing a problem that seems to consistently occur when using an AMD GPU paired with a game heavily leaning on Nvidia technology, and you're also facing financial challenges.

Identify performance bottlenecks on your CPU and GPU. Fallout 4 still benefits from optimization, requiring at least 960 MHz and an Intel i5 processor to prevent lag at typical settings. Current drivers and patches may help, but you might need to wait for an update before proceeding.
