Address concerns about Hakintosh OS with RYZEN 3600
Hello,
I just built a PC with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a Gigabyte B450 DS3H. I'm using Windows 10 on a 240GB SSD and have two 1TB hard drives. My OS is on the SSD, and I want to install Hakintosh OS. I have questions: Will installing Hakintosh erase the entire 1TB hard drive? Or just one partition? Also, if I run Hakintosh, can I still use the other hard drive? Is it possible to dual boot Windows and Hakintosh on a single SSD? And once Hakintosh is installed, can I access both hard drives after switching to Windows? Please clarify, thanks!
Recently someone modified a 3600x on an ASUS TUF B450 board. It works perfectly. A few challenges arose:
1) Yes, the MacOS recovery installer needs a fully prepared disk for the installer. I managed to dual boot initially but had to install MacOS first. After that, I had to repartition the drive and install again, which meant losing data on the original drive.
2) Store your data on a separate drive while installing MacOS to prevent accidental loss.
3) Windows doesn’t support native drivers for APFS or other non-Windows file systems. I haven’t tested third-party tools, but Windows won’t mount MAC drives natively.
4) If you use Catalina, your NVIDIA GPU won’t get acceleration, even with a powerful card. No drivers exist for it. You’ll see the display work, but 3D rendering won’t function properly—games won’t run smoothly.
