Address change leading to internet loss? Here are some practical suggestions you can try.
I purchased all shielded cables, keystones, and connectors from True Cable to minimize any chances of mistakes. I also believe the switch is properly grounded because it uses a three-prong cable connected to the power outlet—this suggests the cables might be grounded as well. I wanted to give you another update. The issue persists but occurs less frequently after installing the oven tray. Previously, it would disconnect every day. The oven tray improved things significantly; it stayed on for about five days without breaking down, which was a big change and relieved me. However, it disconnected twice today, leaving me with no clear direction on how to fix it. Could this be related to the router’s settings or its interaction with the network switch? I bought an unmanaged switch, so I’m not concerned about complex configurations. My ISP uses PPPOE for service delivery. If I understand correctly, fiber connects directly to the modem, CAT6 carries it to the main router, then the switch, and finally everything else is linked through the switch. The main router never disconnects, only the components after the switch—typically other routers. Please let me know if you’d like to try additional tests to resolve this.
I tried contacting my ISP once more. Their previous replies always claimed no issues, despite multiple attempts over the years. About two months ago, a technician confirmed everything connected to the ONT box was fine. I stopped worrying about their side of things. I found the device manual and looked into it further. I asked for a replacement, and they sent me a new ONT unit (probably a modem). It seems like the problem has been fixed again. My internet speed improved noticeably—from 650-700 to around 850-900. Even though my plan is 750mbps, browsing feels faster now. I cleared out the oven tray and everything looks better. I’ll keep checking for a while, hoping things stay stable moving forward.
I've been reading something about IP addresses changing and causing dropouts? I have zero knowledge on the topic and might not be explaining the issue properly. Is there any simple way to verify if that's the issue? Is it something I have to check with the ISP or something that I can do by setting up my network properly? As far as eero settings, everything is done through their app. There are a few network settings I can see that might be relevant. Maybe someone can guide me through what I need to change? 1) WAN Type I have 3 options here: DHCP if I select this, I get no internet. Static IP I get 3 fields to fill up here, IP address, Subnet mask, and Router IP. I haven't tried selecting this option because I don't know if this is what I'm supposed to work with. PPPoE This is the current selection and what I think our ISP works with. I got the user/pass from the ISP, typed it in, and got internet connected to my main router. 2) DHCP & NAT I have 3 options again here: Automatic This is the current selection and what is assigned by default, I never messed with it. Manual IP Selecting this shows two menus. First I would have to select the IP address prefix (192.168.0.0, 10.0.0.0 or, 172.162.0.0). Second, I would have to select the lease range (Subnet IP, Subnet Mask, Starting IP, Ending IP) Bridge As far as I understand, this setting is only for when you have a main router between the ONT and main eero router. 3) Reservation & Port forwarding I dont know if this is relevant. 4) IPv6 This setting is set to on, but I doubt it has anything to do with the problem?
