I wanted to upgrade my PC with a quicker network card. I used one on the regular network and another for gaming. The new card I bought doesn’t show up in my PC’s device manager or lights when inserted, but it worked fine with another Wi-Fi card I had. When I tried it on my son’s machine, it installed smoothly. I’m confused about why it doesn’t work here. I also tried a different PCIe slot, but the same issue occurred. My motherboard is a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite, and my son uses an Asus ROG Strix X570 for gaming. Anyone have any advice?

Your internet and LAN speeds are being asked for. A NIC that operates significantly faster than your current connection won't make any noticeable improvements. Both of you have gigabit LAN connections, which is sufficient for typical home use.

It requires drivers of a certain type. That’s all I had to go on.

It didn’t require drivers from the other board. The Device Manager would have displayed the device, but it would have shown a yellow triangle warning indicating it needed a driver. It’s odd that it doesn’t appear at all.

Windows server operating independently on the same network? Unlikely at all. It’s usually a clear choice—either it runs Windows or it doesn’t. If you’re using a non-Windows client like Linux, splitting won’t change much.

I have additional PCIe/M.2 based hardware available. Please let me know which specific devices you're interested in and their corresponding slots.

unless you're attempting to transfer 500gb of information through the local network simultaneously while playing... that's not a major concern

My GPU is installed in my x16 PCIe slot and both M.2 slots hold NVMe storage devices.

The ASUS board detects both the PCIe NIC card and the built-in NIC because it recognizes the presence of a network interface, even if it's integrated. The Aorus model lacks this integrated solution, so it only registers the external NIC.
