I included an extra M.2 drive to the laptop and it still won’t power on or display any lights. I’m unsure what might be causing this since I didn’t interact with anything besides the SSD. The SSD removal hasn’t helped either.

I believe the laptop is fairly old, so you might need to install an SSD. Have you reconnected the battery to the motherboard? Or did you connect every cable properly? Try connecting the laptop to the charger and see if it powers on. If the battery wasn’t disconnected, I heard it’s common for laptops to short circuit during disassembly without removing the battery and draining the remaining charge. This advice came from a service center.

I'm not sure about the situation. Have you tried unplugging the three cables linked to the battery?

Each laptop model, beyond just the brand, features distinct methods for linking the battery to the motherboard, based on practical experience. Simply remove any cables connected to the chassis and the battery before proceeding. Since you haven’t done that yet, I recommend visiting a service center to inspect it; specialized tools are required to confirm if the motherboard is shorted. Did any lights illuminate when you first pressed the power button? If yes, and then the device shut down instantly, it likely indicates a short.

I didn’t find anything familiar. It seems there were no fans, and even though it tried to activate, only a light appeared on the side, which I didn’t notice. It’s really chilly right now.

The battery was completely disconnected, and the laptop started functioning properly. It seems like the problem might be related to the battery. What should you do next?

It seems the battery connector might have come loose earlier. Without seeing it directly, it's hard to give a clear answer. If it isn’t loose, it could just be low on power. Since it’s currently working, there’s no short circuit. I’d turn off the laptop and attempt to reconnect the battery again. Make sure the connector is clean and avoid any moisture in your hands while plugging it in.

I connected the battery and it functions now, but I'm still unsure about what caused this.

It seems the connection might have come undone during disassembly. Positive outcome then.

Successful conclusion, power source removed completely using all connections, device reinstalled—new RAM and SSD added, system functioning properly!
