The NVIDIA control panel won't allow forcing adaptive sync once the FPS cap is removed.

You're looking for a way to limit your frame rate automatically, but you also want that automatic limiting feature. Adaptive VSync is designed exactly for this purpose.

The FPS limit is fixed at 30, and adaptive VSync offers a much more seamless experience compared to a simple cap.

The standard frame rate for Fallout 4 is 60 FPS. You weren’t seeing 30 due to normal Vsync. Adaptive Vsync will maintain that cap, offering smoother performance without needing to boost the frame rate. There’s no need to unlock the framerate.

For clarity, disabling the FPS cap and turning on VSync through the control panel is the optimal approach at the moment. Removing the cap also helps fix mouse lag problems. Once VSync is enabled, it prevents your frame rate from exceeding safe limits and avoids potential damage. The main issue I encountered was getting stuck after closing a terminal window, which often happens when FPS spikes. Worst of all, FPS tends to change with movement speed, which I found intriguing since it fluctuates. To confirm, could you share the current FPS value in the game and the exact VSync settings you’re using?

It's understood that adaptive vsync half refresh rate is enabled by default. Here’s how to proceed:
1) Navigate to your Fallout4 folder in Documents, with the file saved at "C:\Users\Ash\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\"
2) Open Fallout4Prefs.ini using your chosen text editor.
3) Locate the line iPresentInterval=1 and replace the 1 with a 0.
4) Save the .ini file and close it.
This method also works if you're following along.

I might be mistaken about this, but I believe the Vsync settings in the Nvidia Control Panel are limited to OpenGL applications. That seems unusual, but I haven’t noticed them functioning properly in DirectX games before. If those approaches don’t help, you could experiment with Nvidia Inspector—it appears it has a higher chance of resolving issues when the standard Control Panel options fail.
