We’re dealing with a landline phone using rj11, and I’m searching for a compatible modem setup. I need coaxial input, an rj11 port, and Ethernet output. I noticed that swapping the connector type might be possible—can I convert the rj11 to an rj45 and connect it to a switch or router? Also, I saw some modems have a USB port on the back; could I use that instead?

It lacks an Ethernet connection, meaning linking it to a port wouldn't function and could damage the device.

I aim to clarify your intentions and provide the present setup details. Could you specify what you need to accomplish?

current setup uses the ISP's modem, router, and AP all together. I want to switch to a pfSense router or even get a routerboard router so it can connect via a switch. I prefer not to rely on Comcast and want to minimize their involvement. Also, I’d like everything except the modem to be mounted in racks.

An eMTA is essential for connecting phone service. Without it, phone functionality won’t work. These devices are expensive and require compatibility with your network provider’s specific model. Comcast has strict requirements—make sure your setup matches their expectations. If you’re unsure, consider switching to bridge mode first, then use your PFsense device.
