I purchased this inexpensive, older network adapter from eBay, advertised as compatible with Windows 10 (confirmed by a Reddit discussion). After removing the backplate and installing it in a PCIe 4x 2.0 slot on my motherboard, the system booted into Windows 10 after several recovery attempts, but the adapter didn’t appear. Switching to a PCIe 8x 3.0 slot (intended for SLI) allowed the system to start without issues. My experience suggests either the operating system has a problem with this version or my motherboard isn’t supporting it properly. Specific details: adapter model HP NC523SFP, driver from QLogic, compatible with PCIe 2.0 8x/4x but not 3.0 or earlier versions. CPU: R7 2700X, RAM: Corsair LPX DDR4-3200 (base speed). Assistance would be appreciated!
I should have checked the specifications. My mistake. Are you installing m.2 drives? Have you tested without them installed?

He mentioned it appears sometimes but isn't linked properly. It doesn’t show up in network adapters or device manager. I plan to install on a Linux USB drive and if that fails, I’ll use my dad’s PC. I also attempted a 16x slot setup (2.0 mode) with a GT610 in an 8x slot but it didn’t show either.

Today I verified my concerns by testing it on my dad's Windows 10 setup. It functioned smoothly in Device Manager, likely needing just a driver for proper operation. This suggests the BIOS settings or chipset might be the issue, or perhaps my specific motherboard isn't compatible. Linux also failed, as the card didn't appear in hwinfo after removing the M.2 SSD. With time before the remaining shipments arrive, I plan to explore using spare PCIe 1x 2.0 cards to check compatibility with older hardware.
